What's the Problem?
Aquaculture is the fastest growing food-producing sector in the world with a market volumen of US$ 175B. Currently there are no effective treatments to prevent diseases. Antibiotics used as a prevention method pose a serious health hazard to human health and the environment. Injectable vaccines are very impractical, required to take the fish out of the water, anesthetized and injected one by one.
How are they Solving it?
FeedVax is developing a platform of oral vaccines to replace the use of antibiotics, eliminate fish stress and simplify farmers' lives. They designed an easy-to-use oral vaccine that goes in the feed pellet. Their first product is a vaccine for streptococcosis in Tilapia to be launched in 2022. This is a platform that can be adapted to multiple species & functions.
