What's the Problem?
The most used prophylactic treatments for infection prevention are subunit live attenuated or inactive vaccines. This has been an important contribution for the sustainable development of global salmon farming industry. However, these have significant disadvantages compared to current vaccine development technologies. Currently developing these vaccines can take up to two years or longer, and the efficiency generally does not exceed 50% under growth conditions. Due to this, and the inherent risk of new emerging diseases, there is a need to implement new technologies that allow a development for more effective vaccines in the shortest possible time.
How are they Solving it?
WerkenVac is a platform that allows a rapid development of Self-amplifying RNA vaccines for prophylactic treatment of fish infectious diseases.
